Joy [B]ride: Erica + Dewayne’s Vow Ceremony

Yesterday MEMFOLK was able to host a small and intimate vow exchange ceremony. We couldn’t think of a better way to close our concept FLOWERBOX than to bask in the joy of love.
The Bride and Groom
Erica and Dewayne met on May 3, 2018. Like many of the challenges couples have faced this year, their wedding was postponed due to the global pandemic and to add insult to injury they were unable to get the deposit back for their first venue after the company filed for bankruptcy shortly before the onset of the pandemic.
Despite the challenges, they were determined to make the most out of their circumstances. They mentioned the idea to use the space to their wedding planner, Cynthia Daniels, who then shared the idea with us.
Before we even fully read the message, we were sold.
The vision for MEMFOLK is to capture urban folklore in unimaginable ways and we couldn’t think of a moment more special to host in our space than a vow ceremony. If you can believe it, we actually hoped an opportunity like this would come! It truly blew our minds! We were overjoyed that they decided to host their vow ceremony with their family at MEMFOLK to celebrate their love!
It wasn’t just the ceremony, but Erica and Dewayne’s story that really sold us. The bride wrote: “We've prayed, we've laughed, we've cried, we've fussed but through it all, we've chosen to do it together.”
That’s what joy is: choosing to live life in spite of its circumstances.
